Turtle Conservation Project

Best Practice Guideline Workshop

MES in collaboration with the Institute of Marine Resources (IMR) organized a two day workshop on the 28th and 29th of July which was held at and hosted by Bounty Island Resort. Present at the workshop were Department of Environment, Department of Fisheries, WWF, USP and representative from various resorts.

This was the first consultation workshop between various stakeholders to formulate a Best Practice Guideline for resorts as part of the Mamanuca Turtle Conservation Project. This guideline is specifically for resorts to enhance in sustainable practices and for the protection and conservation of sea turtles in the Mamanuca region. This includes rearing of hatchlings (head-starting program) and protection of nesting beaches and foraging sites. MES would like to thank all participants for their contribution to make this workshop a successful one.
